SYRUP…the word
itself evokes images of sweetness, but the boys who bear the
name rouse these sugary fantasies to tangible sights and sounds
with their thick and sticky blend of southern ghetto-fied
boogie rock‘n’roll. Hailing from the rolling hills and spring-fed
swimmin' holes of Tallahassee, Florida -Leroy, Slim Bullfrog,
FreeBass, and Night Train are on a rock and roll rampage throughout
the nation - packin' houses and showin' people a good time
with their outstanding live performances. When four 6'4''
plus country boy pimps strut up on stage in their handmade
flashy threads, groovin' together in choreographed unison
as they rock it tight and heavy with a touch of ghetto soul
- folks tend to take notice - and they have. Syrup logged
in over 120 shows in 2000 - playing to full houses in hotspots
such as Austin, New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, New York
City, and Tampa. A nationwide tour with Nashville Pussy that
spring put the boys in touch with hundreds of newly-born Syrup
zealots in cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver,
and Memphis - along with a slew of towns in between. Even
with their relentless touring schedule, Syrup found time to
spend in the studio. At the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis,
they recorded 4 bare-boned, countrified songs and also managed
to record 10 new rock’n’rollers in Athens, GA with the talented
David Barbe of Chase Park Transduction Studios. Since having
parted ways with Scooch Pooch Records after the label lost
its affiliation with Sub Pop Records, Syrup is carefully planning
its next move; both of these sessions have yet to be released.
Every one of these strong tracks reflects Syrup's original
style, a phenomenon drawn from a mishmash of influences —
exile-era Stones to early ZZ and Skynyrd, from Gram Parsons
to Grand Funk, from punk rock to funk rock, Syrup mixes it
all together in its own unique way to keep the tradition of
hard southern soul alive and well. Media worldwide have praised
the band for the power and good-timin' vibe of their live
shows and for the sweet sounds of Syrup's previous albums:
Sweet Country Rock Ass and Solid Gold Asstro Soul. Syrup's
got the hard rock and funky style that puts smiles on folks
faces. So if you haven't already, come and get yourself a
taste of the sweetness that is………....SYRUP.
