California punks PopDefect once again show good taste. On their last LP Live at Big Bear, they shocked with a cover of a 1980 Jeopardy song by THE SOUND, "I Can't Escape Myself," plus other songs from BOBBIE GENTRY, NANCY SINATRA, BILLY CHILDISH and THE REVILLOS, hardly
staples in punks' CD collections. Here they are on more familiar ground, doing X-RAY SPEX, and singing off-key, but they.pick one of PoLy STYRENE's best lyrics for punks, which says enjoy being different instead of having a chip on your shoulder. Pop Defect have more fun with the sleeve artwork, recreating X-Rav Spex's Germ Free Adolescents' cover, only with the three PopDefect members in the test tubes, wearing the same day-glo clothes. Ha! The B-side "Everyday Is Brenda Day" is another slice of happy pogo punkpop, making fun of half-witted Beverly Hills 90210.
